Alison Mills-Long has over 30 years project management experience in the financial services industry including design & development, compliance and acquisition projects. She is a Project Management Institute (PMI) certified Project Management Professional (PMP), an Amercian Society for Quality (ASQ) certified Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence (CMQ/OE), a certified Reiki Master Teacher (RMT), a Certified Regulatory Vendor Program Manager (CRVPM), a Transpersoanl Neuro Linguistic Programming Practitioner (TNLP), a certified Every Word Has Power Life Coach, an International Sound Therapy Association certified Tibetan Singing Bowl Therapist, a Certified Therapeutic Sound Practitioner and is also ordained.
Alison is a founding member of the Columbus, GA Project Management Institute Chapter and has served as an officer since its founding in 1996. She is a member of the International Sound Therapy Association, Sound Healers Association and volunteers for Columbus Hospice providing Reiki and Sound Therapy.
The key to a successful project is communication and interpersonal skills. The use of soft skills in project management was the topic of Alison's interview with PM War Stories in October 2007 (People Skills #8 & #25).
In completing her Reiki Master Teacher certification, Alison further enhanced her use of soft skills in the workplace with project teams and co-workers. Her integration of traditional project management principles and alternative energy therapy creates a unique and effective approach to managing project teams. Although her initial interest in Reiki was motivated by her volunteer work for hospice patients, Alison applies the advanced techniques for interpersonal and environmental situations with noticeable results. Alison has found Reiki, sound therapy and meditation to be very effective in dealing with the stress and anxiety prevalent in our work environments as well as facilitating discussion and decision making in various work situations.
